Stieber Family Arts Fund

X

The Stieber Family Arts Fund supports fine arts programming in Manitoba, with a focus on recognizing and empowering women over 50 through awards, travel support, and access to artistic development.

This fund honours Gisela Stieber Roger (also known as Mrs. Dieter Roger), an artist, and educator, who immigrated to Winnipeg in 1967 with two small girls and her husband on December 22nd,1967. Composers, conductors, opera singers, pianists, choral and theatre directors, as well as notable authors of textbooks, poetry and illustrators of children’s stories shaped her family of origin. An artist and educator in her spare time, Gisela was able to nurture her artistic talents more deeply, after the age of 50. She went on to win several local prizes, writing and illustrating, painting and drawing prolifically until her passing in 2021 at age 88.

To honor this remarkable woman, your gift to the Stieber Family Arts Fund will be pooled and invested, and a portion of the income generated by the fund will be distributed to support arts programming and related awards in perpetuity, and where possible, striving to support artists and female artists, over the age of 50, or programs that include and support them.

Her legacy lives on through support for diverse artistic disciplines including short stories and poetry, drawing and painting, reviewing articles/art criticism of art shows and books, illustrating and writing children’s stories, pottery, stage design drawings, sewing puppets and knitting for varied purposes, curriculum development and being an educator.
